We are so proud of Jan Batamuriza  a genocide survivor, a Psychology graduate, the mother of three bright young children, and part of the SEED family since our early days.

Jan's mother and grandmother were killed during the genocide and, soon after, she was separated from her husband and found herself raising her children alone.

Recognizing Jan’s potential, SEED supported her university studies and graduation, then engaged her in a 1.5-year internship. Among other internship activities, Jan counseled individuals who have also been traumatized by the genocide.

They call her a “wounded healer.”

Jan was able to keep her children enrolled in school and save a little bit to put toward building her own counseling practice. The Rwandan government encourages medical people to start their own practices and supports them through economic incentives. We pray Jan will be able to open the doors on her full-time counseling practice soon.
